Method

Because of my background I use a unique blend of different studies and visions (see my bio). However, there is a common thread and core in my working method.

  1. New neuro-scientific research on “how our emotions arise”.
  2. NLP.
  3. Neuro-semantics.

Together they determine my working method. Below is some explanation of where these methods and ideas come from.

The emergence of emotions

Emotions play a very important role in our life. A much bigger role than assumed in psychology. New neuroscience research (2019) shows this. Unconscious feelings determine which decisions we make. How we interpret behavior and information. How we respond to others and our environment. We have known for a long time that emotions are important to us. However, it seems that how our emotions arise is completely different from what we thought. The mechanism that determines how we create our emotions is modeled by Wassili. He has translated the new knowledge into how you can change human behavior. This produces remarkable results and profound change. Even with before difficult or very difficult to change problems. RETEC, Relationship Emotion Therapy and Coaching is the method that originated from Wassili’s research.

Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP) and positive psychology

Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) originated in the 1970s in California. The founders of NLP are Bandler and Grinder. They were one of the first to not look at human behavior from “a theory”. Instead, they listened to the language of therapists who were very effective in their work. It was suspected that the therapists’ use of language influenced the problems of the people they worked with. And it showed!

Thus, they began to focus on unraveling successful human behavior. This was completely different from what traditional psychology did and still does. Psychology mainly investigates problem behavior, but not solution behavior. Today, psychology is catching up on this. With the development of “positive psychology”. Many methods used in positive psychology are developed by NLP researchers. The current business world is peppered with NLP models. Consider, for example, the ‘SMART’ model for setting goals. NLP has developed very effective techniques to “communicate more effectively”. “Transform fears and phobias”. “Achieve goals smarter and faster”. “To be more authentic” … too much to mention actually.

The link between NLP and the development of cognitive psychology

NLP was inspired by important pioneers such as Galanter, Pribram, Miller and Chomsky. Years later, the latter were recognized as founders of contemporary cognitive psychology. NLP is recognized as one of the most effective change techniques. In psychology, cognitive psychology is one of the most widely used and researched methods. However, both methods are very different.

The founders of NLP were inspired by the work of Gallanter, Pribram and Miller. These laid the foundation for a number of important developments in artificial intelligence. This knowledge is translated into the functioning of the human brain. This is how our contemporary ideas about, for example, setting goals arose – who does not know SMART?

Noam Chomski’s work has also influenced NLP founder Grinder. Grinder has a PHD in “transformational grammar” and developed the meta-model. One of the most effective communication models. The meta-model is also called the ‘heart’ of NLP. NLP has since been further developed with many models and hundreds of techniques. These can be used for transformation, growth and communication.

Wassili brought neuro-semantics into the Netherlands in 2000 . Since 2004, he certified many coaches, trainers and individuals in neuro-semantics. He is known as the Dutch pioneer.

Neuro-semantics

Neuro-semantics (NS) has its roots in NLP. In addition, NS is also based on the humanistic psychology of Abraham Maslow. An influential psychological innovator of his time. Maslow is recognized worldwide as the man behind self-actualization and positive psychology. In addition to Maslow, neuro-semantics is also based on the work of Viktor Frankl. Frankl was a leading psychiatrist who invented and developed logotherapy. Frankl’s work is one of the building blocks of neuro-semantics.

The innovation of neuro-semantics is due to the idea of meta-states discovered by Hall. Hall (cognitive psychologist) has caused a revolution with his work on “the layering of the mind.” Neuro-semantics is one of the most powerful, effective methods of personal transformation and growth.
